                    BY-LAWS
                    (established January 2005)

                    Article I: Name

                    Section I: Name: The name of the organization shall be the Deaf Women of OZ (DWOZ). The term ‘Deaf’ shall represent Deaf, deaf-blind, and hard of hearing women.

                     

                    Article II: Purpose

                    Section I: Mission: This Organization is established to address issues that have impacted Deaf women by means of: personal growth and empowerment provide support to increase self worth and awareness, build unity based on our common interest and being Deaf and women.

                    Section II: Values: We, an organization, value our diverse backgrounds and encourage inclusion of others who share our professional mission regardless of communication mode, geographic location, race, sexual orientation, color, creed, national origin, or disability.

                     

                    Article III: Membership

                    Section 1: Qualifications for membership: Deaf women, who are 18 or over and are not high school students, are welcome.

                    Section II: Membership Procedure: Prospective member shall fill out a membership form. The forms will be available at regular gathering and   meetings. This may be also available through the newsletter and website.

                    Section III: Dues: New members will submit their dues when turning in their membership forms. Annual dues will be paid (renewed) by January 31 in order to maintain good standing.

                    Section IV: Voting rights for members: Any member in good standing may vote on any issue brought up before the membership.


                     
                    Article IV: Officers (duties and qualification of officers)

                    Section I: Qualification: Must be a member in good standing of the Deaf Women of OZ.

                    Section II: Duties

                    President

                    - Presides at all meetings

                    - Serves as a representative to other Organizations

                    - Handles budget development and approval

                    - Runs the officers meetings and assures officers share common goals

                    - Submits our local chapter constitution & by-laws to Deaf Women United, Inc (DWU)

                    - Assures affiliation to the DWU

                    Vice President

                    - Provides leadership inside the Organization

                    - Appoints the Chairs of all standing committees

                    - Assumes responsibilities assigned to the president when she’s unable to perform her duties

                    - Serves as the person in charge of the conference committee (workshops, training, and support group)

                    - Serves as a member of the By-Laws committee

                    Secretary

                    - Records the general and officer meetings

                    - Reports and disseminates minutes at every meeting

                    - Applies and submit’s the affiliate form to DWU

                    Treasurer

                    - Assumes responsibility for all financial matter to the membership and officers belonging to the Organization

                    - Plays the entire Organization bill by check on time or within thirty days

                    - Sends out membership forms, updates the membership directory and have it ready for dissemination at each biennial conference

                    - Signs an authorized signature with President in all checks, drafts and orders for payment

                    Newsletter/Website Editor

                    - Publishes newsletter three-four times a year via emails and website

                    - Develops the webpage

                     

                    Article V: Meetings:

                    Section I: Location:The meetings and conference/social events shall be held in Olathe and/or Kansas City Metro area.
                     
                    Section II: Meetings:General business meetings of the membership shall occur at least two times a year, on a Sunday with the location, date, and time to be determined by the board members.

                    Section III: Board Meeting: The board meetings shall occur at least four times during the year.

                    Section IV: Events/Activities: Events, including social gatherings, presentations, and/or workshops, shall occur at least four times a year.

                    Section V: Quorum: At any meeting, a quorum shall consist of twenty-five (25) percent of the members in good standing. Either the President or the Vice-President must be present in order to conduct business at a meeting.

                    Section VI: Notice of Meetings: Notice of each meeting shall be published in the Deaf Women of OZ newsletter and include all necessary information regarding to regular meetings, social gatherings, and workshops.

                    Section VII: Officers: shall be elected at a biennial election meeting.

                    Section VIII: Rules of Order: Any procedures that are not being covered in the by-laws of DWOZ, Robert’s Rule of Order, Newly Revised, shall be recognized authority in case of dispute.

                     

                    Article VI: Publications

                    Section I: Fundraising: No funds shall be raised or solicited on behalf of DWOZ without the consent of the Board and/or the vote of the members.

                    Section II: Compensation: The board members shall vote on reimbursement for any organizational expenditure.

                    Section III: Gifts: The officers may accept on behalf of DWOZ any contribution, gift or bequest of assets for the general or special purposes of the Organization and shall notify the membership of such an event.

                    Section IV: Dues: Dues will be set at the biennial election meetings. The amount shall be established by majority vote. Annual dues shall be paid (renewed) by January 31 in order to maintain good standing. The membership due is $15.00.
