This bookclub is open to ANY Deaf individual, male and female, as well as to hearing individuals who can sign PROFICIENTLY. DWOZ's primary mission is to promote accessibility for all Deaf women in a hearing world, within the community at large. This bookclub is run by DWOZ and always has a DWOZ member present to assure that the needs of the deaf women are met for full access. DWOZ also recognizes the importance of being visible as a strong and respected organization. Hence this bookclub is an avenue for DWOZ to gain more visibility and recognition within the diverse society at large.
How Deaf Wizardreaders of Oz Bookclub works . . .
1) Bookclub members rotate hosting, preferably at their homes.
2) The host is responsible for choosing the book, entertainment and to communicate information to members about the meeting.
3) Bookclub meets on the 3rd Friday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
4) The CARDINAL, UNBREAKABLE rule of the club is . . . you MUST read the book! Not reading equals dismissal from the group!
5) Each member should come prepared to each meeting with either a couple of discussion questions/topics or a favorite passage to talk about.
6) Be nice and have fun!
7) The Secret to an exciting bookclub . . . the more controversial the book, the more heated the argument - then the more everybody loves the meetings. They leave happy, and can't wait to pick up the next book selection!
